Highly Spiritual Music signee, Andrew Comey Otoo, popularly known on stage as Mr. Drew has said that the economic state of most musicians in Ghana has changed due to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.

Speaking in an interview with Adwoa Loud on GhOne TV, Mr. Drew said that the ban on social gatherings which led to the cancelation of music concerts is making a lot of musicians suffer. He said the system in Ghana has made musicians earn more from shows than streams.
He also addressed the fact that musicians are not being paid when their songs are being played on the radio and also they are not being paid their royalties.
“I’m not doing okay, especially this part of Africa where we benefit a lot from shows instead of streams; because the people here don’t buy music they just download online for free and we are not being paid when our songs are played on radio, we are not getting royalties and this is something we need to fix ,” he said.
“Artistes are suffering in these times of COVID. It’s pretty bad,” he bemoaned.
Mr. Drew further stated he believes his hard work has earned him the right to win in all the categories he has been nominated in the 3Music awards and the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
The “DW3” crooner also urged Ghanaians to stream their songs on musical platforms in order for musicians to earn something from their craft rather than downloading it for free online.
He also charged the minister-designate for the sector, Dr. Awal Mohammed, to put structures in place to ensure sanity in the industry if given the nod.
