The match was between Fabulous Ladies and Kumasi Sports Academy in the ongoing Ghana Women’s League.
The referee at the centre of this controversy is Referee Faizatu Jakpa and she was between to the pulp by a player of Fabulous Ladies.
As we speak, there hasn’t been any word from the Ghanaian FA concerning any disciplinary action against the player and the team.
This comes after a similar incident that happened last year where a female Ghanaian referee identified as Theresa Beremansu, was beaten to the pulp in a women’s league game in Sunyani for reportedly not adding enough injury time after the 90 minutes of normal play.
This happened during Normalization Committee’s Women’s Special Competition semi final first leg encounter between Prisons Ladies and Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the Sunyani Army Park where Ampem Darkoa, the away side, won the game 1-0 courtesy a 48th-minute goal from Mavis Owusu.
Aggrieved fans and players of the home side, Prisons Ladies, descended on the center referee, Theresa Bremanso, as they were dissatisfied with the number of minutes the referee added as injury time, beating her mercilessly and left her with several bruises to her face.
Eyewitnesses reports suggest that the security personnel assigned to the game, officials from the Ghana Prisons Service, and reported sympathizers of the home team, joined in the attacks, handing out a few slaps of their own before whisking her away from the angry mob.
