Martine Mose, the first lady of Haiti, has published images of herself in her hospital bed, where she has been healing since her husband, President Jovenel Mose, was assassinated on July 7.
Martine Mose, the First Lady, was shot at least three times during an attack on their residence in which her husband, the President, was killed.
The First Lady used Twitter to share images from the hospital as she mourned the unexpected and untimely death of her husband of 25 years.
Her message, translated to English, reads: “Thank you to everyone who’s helping me pray to return to life. Because when you’re hospitalized your life is God’s hands and doctors. Me, Martine Moïse, I still don’t believe that my husband left like this before my eyes without saying a last word to me. This pain will never pass.”
In another tweet showing her bandaged arm, the first lady wrote, “Thank you for the team of guardian angels who helped me through this terrible time. With your gentle touch, kindness and care, I was able to hold on. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
On Sunday, July 11, Haitian police detained Christian Emmanuel Sanon, a 63-year-old man suspected of masterminding the midnight attack. Sanon is a Florida resident who came to Haiti in June on a private plane, according to authorities. They believe he assassinated the president for political reasons.
