The fire that erupted as a result of the explosion was alleged to have extended throughout the neighborhood, burning homes and precious property while injuring some individuals badly.
According to accounts, the incident occurred when a petroleum task force working in the region flagged down one of the tankers transporting the dangerous cargo.
According to eyewitnesses, as the task force was attempting to ‘inspect’ the tanker driver, a speeding tanker driver lost control and collided with the stationary tanker at the checkpoint.
The two tankers collided, spilling their contents and catching fire.
