Police Arrest Woman For Buying Twins In Imo After Faking Pregnancy

Mrs. Chinyere Ohanyere, also known as Madam Chichi, a 55-year-old woman, has been detained for reportedly buying a set of twins.

The resident of the state’s Oguta Local Government Area, who allegedly faked giving birth to twins on September 3 at Irete in the Owerri West LGA of Imo State, was detained last Tuesday at Graceland Estate in Owerri, Imo State capital, after police received information.

The lady was arrested alongside Adaeze Ohanyere, a relative who had previously been convicted in a child trafficking case. Additional reports suggest that the children have been sent to an orphanage for proper care.

Meanwhile, the police are hunting for the seller of the kids.

A source told Vanguard;

“The operatives of the command got a tip-off, stormed her house and arrested them. She claimed she gave birth to the twins on September 3 at Irete.

“But when she was subjected to medical examination, it was discovered that she wasn’t delivered of the twins. She bought the kids, a boy and a girl.”

Michael Abattam, a Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), verified the event and said the case has been transferred to the Imo State Magistrate Court, where the suspect is on trial for alleged child trafficking.
