This comes after Sarkodie came under criticism for sampling from George Darko’s song without going through the necessary procedures to seek his permission.
Well, it appeared that Sarkodie sought permission from the Highlife legend and gave him the necessary credit before using his intellectual property in his project.
Speaking in an interview with Giovanni Caleb on 3FM, Sarkodie stated he sought permission from George Darko and this brilliant move would have no implications as all requirements have been satisfied.
“You have to seek the consent of whoever owns the right to the music. that is the same way that I would like to be treated. Even when I am old or gone, I would want my Titi and MJ to get some credit or revenue from people trying to use my work,” he said.
“And that is exactly what we did with Odo Colour. Big shouts to Daddy George Darko for making it smooth for us. We had a conversation. And he had his credit on as a writer, because that line was written by him. And that is the best way to go about it”, he added.
In reaction to this, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has said that the rapper needs to be commended for his brilliant move in sampling from the Highlife legend.
During an interview on Peace FM, he stated that Sarkodie did so well by giving the necessary to George Darko before using his property in his project.
“In an era where young artistes don’t respect the legends and their copyright, he has stuck to the core business of copyright-related matters. And he has to be praised for it“, he said.
I am confident he has gone through all the processes. To actually list George Darko as a writer, he has done well, and so we should praise him”, he added.
